Romantic Times (Top Pick November, 2005)

As members of an e-mail loop providing godly support and encouragement for stay-at-home mothers, Zelia, Jocelyn, Dulcie, Brenna and Phyllis join forces to help each other through the rigors of life. Even though they live in different parts of the country, their computers furnish a link to others going through similar trials and triumphs.

Zelia and her husband have come to a crossroads about home schooling.  Jocelyn's son is diagnosed with a painful disease. Dulcie is having marital problems. Brenna struggles with infertility. Phyllis is a pastor's wife with a cloudy past.  All have individual problems, but their common Christian background makes the burden seem a bit lighter.

Efken's debut novel is pure delight. Written entirely in e-mail messages, the book allows the reader to become part of the ongoing conversation. Enough background is given to make the messages realistic yet informative. Each character has a clear voice and contributes to the multifaceted plot. Infused with humor, the touching issues reach deep into the soul with spiritual truth and love. Four and a half, Top Pick
